Hip

Hip fractures are classified by anatomic location and can be categorized as:
Femoral Neck Fractures , Intertrochanteric Fractures and subtrochanteric fractures, and these can each be subclassified.

Femoral neck fractures and intertrochanteric fractures commonly require open reduction and internal fixation. Neck fractures are more common in women because of several factors including osteoporosis.
Most elderly patients require peoperative medical evaluation to define and treat anaesthetic risk.

Hip Revision

This patient was referred to Mr Haddad for revision of the hip replacement. As you can see from the first
x-ray, the bone cement is splitting the acetabulum and pushing into the pelvis. The prosthesis has become unstable and each movement is making it worst for the patient.

The task was to reconstruct the acetabulum with a reinforced shell to hold it in its natural anatomical position. This was done with a metal shell, plate and screws. A new acetabular cup was inserted in place with bone cement. The result shows a perfect improvement with stability. See revision x-ray.
